  • Compromise can only exist when there’s at least one coincidence of interest. A greater good or similar common value that motivates the parties to negotiate over the aisle on individual issues. The principles, values, goals and even worldview of the two party system in the US is radically polarized. Which makes it almost impossible to negotiate a compromise. Right now, the few policy issues they agree on are nonessential points (supporting Israel, e.g.) that don’t weight the balance and exist out of pure accident. It exist on either side for completely different reasons. When one side argues that some people deserves to die, it is hard to negotiate when the protection of life and dignity is above all for the other side. But compounded by the fact that they don’t even agree what life, person hood and dignity even mean.

  • Never let perfect be the enemy of good enough. Do you want to do the thing or do you want to stress about the thing for days, delay it for months while you save up then suffer regret anxiety about whether it was the correct choice? For a lot of people the latter is the part they enjoy about the hobby. For others it isn’t worth the time and resources requires, they’d rather do the thing now with what they have and enjoy it as it is. Where does the inflection point lies between hassle and enjoyable results is personal and everyone has different criteria for different goals and contexts, and that is OK.

  • Yeah, people forget that tyrants never stand on their own. They are propped up by a complex system of corruption that benefits from the tyrant’s decisions. They will defend this system and the head authoritarian. Not out of love, devotion or loyalty, but to protect their own sources of ill gains. Just like a Mafia, it holds up on a shared complicity of its members on the crimes being committed. This is why generals force low level officers to witness the violations and tortures, and corrupt politicians tie in their underlings in the money laundering schemes. If everyone has something to lose, then everyone conspires to keep the corrupt system going.

  • As of right now, there’s no AI product that actually do any of those things you need without a human in the middle to curate and correct the output. So you have to pay for AI and also a person to wrangle the AI.

For example, the company I work for has the whole office 365 package. It includes an AI enhanced automatic audio transcript. It is supposedly capable of transcription of Teams meetings and to generate a summary and minutes of the meeting. Except it consistently insists the meeting was held in German, despite the fact we only speak Spanish or English during meetings, we are not in Germany, nor we are anywhere close to Europe. It also can’t cope with low quality microphones, slow internet lag and sound cutoffs throw it out of whack and it requires all the meeting to be recorded and stored at MS servers (not our in-house exchange server) which means that it is useless for some meetings were confidential information is discussed and recording is disallowed.

It would take one of us a couple of hours to correct the transcript to make the summary function work and then make the minute and summary actually be in a useful format for us. Or, that same person could participate in the meeting taking notes, then use half an hour to write the minutes directly.

Your best bet to do those things you need is to find and pay for a good personal assistant. Cut the middleware.

  • Everyone, even dogs benefit from fluoride in the water. It’s not just children. Virtually all toothpaste contains it too. Some groundwater sources also contain it naturally, some even above the recommended max level from health associations. So I’d say, document yourself with official sources. Test your well levels, then decide. Be mindful that regular consumption of soft drinks, processed foods and even air conditioning nullifies the effects for cavities.
