  • Yeah, be aware that these may block screens or other things like mobile phone holders on the back of the seat for the passenger behind you if you can’t find a way to keep the strap confined to your own headrest. I wouldn’t bring one of these only to find out you can’t use it.

They make neck pillows that are more supportive than those cheap inflatables and will hold your head upright. I’ve had one for a while now and they work pretty good. They support under the chin so it helps you aren’t “catching flies” too.

I’d recommend one of those, but they tend to be more expensive than the cheap pillows.

  • Yeah, once or twice.

It’s really disturbing, and I generally dislike them because of the emotional leftovers.

The emotion is real, and the worst part is that it tends to stick around. Most dreams you just forget. But for some reason the one or two of these I’ve experienced it has left a longing and a desire to sort of go back to that dream, the person in it, the level of feeling I got, which of course is impossible. I have a family and love them all, so I don’t know why my brain threw this at me. It’s not like I’m lonely.

I wonder what the psychology and brain chemistry is with that. Why your brain makes up the person, the feelings, and why it sticks around when all the other dreams generally vanish.

  • Therpf.com forums if you are serious about making costumes and replica props.

Tomshardware forums are still pretty decent for tech help.

LS1tech.com if you are working on an LS engine. Everything you could possibly want to know.

There’s actually quite a few Internet forums out there that cater to crowds that may be a little averse to technology and adopting things like discord or using Reddit. Car repair, Automotive, DIY construction and home repair, surprisingly quite a few tech forums like XDA developers or Tom’s, machinists, prop-making, Making in general…. Sometimes they’re not very active unfortunately, but they do have a searchable wealth of knowledge.

  • Baking is about ratios. You absolutely can mess around with baking even if you don’t really know what to do, you just can’t mess up the ratios - and I mean liquids/wet ingredients, dry ingredients like flour, then eggs and of course the important baking soda/powder.

Like regular cooking, once you get a good feel, you can do a lot.

It won’t let you make your own recipe, though. That does take a level of knowledge above just substituting or changing an ingredient or two.

  • Pretty much what I was trying to get at. Everyone’s fixated on “but it isn’t karma…” while rejecting out of hand that people can place value on post/comment count, and at some point the idea of point “totalizer” could become a thing.

The fediverse isn’t static, and if it grows it will only require someone to desire that change and the knowledge implement it.

I simply thought of cutting it off before it could ever go that way with and that it might be worth considering. A mechanic that would offer a cake day yearly cumulative “badge” that showed sort of service to the communities and longevity without any avenue to amass points - other than a rolling 1-year trend to show post/comment contributions as individual numeric values. Make it community controlled? If you participate in a Linux community your badges show up as a bunch of Linux Tux penguins with “thumbs up” or some such.
