From my understanding it’s pretty widely known that most intelligence agencies though something could happen but not the specifics, and chose not to act on that information or communicate with one another.
The exact reasons aren’t known obviously. My gut tells me incompetence/apathy from government agencies. That’s not a very cinematic or compelling answer, though, and I think a lot of people look for more interesting narratives.
Whenever a big tragedy like 9/11 happens, people tend to try and look for the Chekhov’s gun that shows a deeper meaning or dramatic orchestration. That’s just not real life though.
Had a Galaxy S8 and loved it. Got a Pixel 6 and now the slow fingerprint sensor is the bane of my existence. Why did they put it on the front? Why is that the standard now? It sucks, it’s just slower and less ergonomic.
Reddit is just karma-based ego battles with no room for actual discourse. Lemmy is small and highly community-oriented so no one cares about that stuff.
Someone’s post count does not influence anything about their experience with Lemmy.
It doesn’t, since govt. subsidies still go to healthcare in America, so I’m paying for this privilege in taxes and insurance premiums.
I shouldn’t write Lemmy posts while driving, my math becomes silly 💀
My employer’s insurance plan, which is REALLY good mind you, takes $2800 annually in premiums, then actually starts to cover your expenses after you’ve spent $1600 on health care. That is, unless you’re “out of network”, AKA the hospital/office doesn’t have a contract with your insurance company, in which case it kicks in after $3200. So basically, minimum of $4400, max of $6000, and that’s for like the top 1% best insurance available, assuming you’re only doing things your insurance covers.
New account, this has to be bait lol
Conceptually I have no problem with it, but in practice a lot of people feel like they “should” or “have to” become sex workers out of desperation for money. That can seriously ruin your life. Work under capitalism is inherently unethical, but sex work especially so.
Not having karma is one of Lemmy’s biggest selling points for me lol
I got asked out by a girl in high school I barely knew after feeling unlovable for most of my teens. I became fast friends with her female friends and it kinda helped me realize that women are just people.
Later I broke up with her but stayed friends with everyone. Eventually I started dating one of her other friends, and we’re still together 6 years later. Taught me that being friends with someone should probably come before a relationship, and the best way to get girl friends is to just hang around them and do normal friend stuff.
Later I found out that the only reason I got asked out in the first place was because of a coin flip. If I lost that 50/50 I might still be an incel weirdo. Weird to think about.
TF2 might be the best example of this honestly. It looks like it could have come out today.
Just start yelling at me and I’ll probably shut down and cry.
It is, and as an autistic person I hereby give you all the R-word pass
