Depends a bit on the type of person and content you want to follow. But if you like retro computer Shenanigans etc. I know action retro is on Lemmy and Mastodon and I follow them on mastodon. But yes General content for the normies probably not so much.

It’s simply acting as a connector. And directing traffic around Nat Etc for lay people or those who don’t want to bother with setting up and securing server software or such things. The site isn’t hosting the file. Sure you can host your own FTP etc. But there is a lot of security risks and vulnerabilities that arise because of that. You can even host your own Magic wormhole. It’s under MIT license. Just have to open the ports Etc. It should however theoretically have a lot less attack surface than HTTP FTP and similar protocols. Nothing is invulnerable of course.

Mine is pain by boy harsher. I like boy harsher. But the frequency that it comes up is uncanny. Though on the whole the algorithm does do fairly well for me and I have quite eclectic taste. Punk, Post Punk, goth, electro swing, horror Punk, Psychobilly, chap hop, EBM, EDM, darkwave, new wave, all the other wave wave, classic rockc, metal, rockabilly, etc.

LOL a couple years ago one of my closest friends who happens to be about the furthest away from me of any of them. Shot me a message asking me to guess who they were having lunch with. I had no idea. Well running a server and no longer interacting with a service can be two different things. From an organizational standpoint I could absolutely understand them not wanting or needing the expense of another service to maintain. Even for just their own use. As long as they still have accounts and post to the fediverse. I don’t see a big issue
